About These Programs

Known as free and reduced fee dental programs, community dental clinics treat low-income individuals and families without dental insurance. They serve patients in need, including those on traditional Medicaid.

Throughout the state, these programs take the form of community care organizations, dental schools, and dental hygiene clinics. At these centers, dentists, dental hygienists, and other trained staff provide necessary dental care for patients who cannot otherwise afford it.

Others provide care for common oral health issues like gum disease, cavities, tooth loss, and tooth decay. These sites provide more treatments, including: cleanings, assessments and exams, tooth extractions, filling cavities, applying sealants, and other necessary dental procedures.

Most of these programs accept Medicaid for the services Medicaid covers. To find out what treatments are covered, please call the number on the back of your Medicaid enrollment card. The program does not determine what services are covered by Medicaid.
